More Wynoochee wandering

Back to Wynoochee for another hike before the gates open and give and take away hiking opportunities.  My poor little car could not make it to the wild life gate thanks to a stupid water bar.

  Water bars protect roads while making them impassible for anyone who does not have a truck or a Jeep.    I had to add almost two miles to my hike thanks to just one water bar.  The road was okay for my car before and after the water bar.

The plan was to carpool to this site with Phil.  But he was running two hours late and I did not care to wait around any longer so I told him to meet me at the gate.

Phil missed his turn and parked at a different gate and met me at the lunch destination.   After lunch we both hiked back out our separate ways.

There was less snow this time and I did not use my snowshoes at all on the way down.

I’m still need a pickup truck, but my family has just taken a hard hit to our monthly income. I don’t know if I want to pay for tabs and insurance on another vehicle with my monthly income being so low.  

I’ve found a great printer and am offer very high quality prints of all the photos on my blog for reasonable prices.  I don’t have any good photos from this hike though.

Next week I will hike behind another gate.

Wynoochee Wandering

A hike behind a locked gate.  I am starting to like all locked gates, they open up hiking opportunities.

Sage picked up one tick on the last road hike.  I did not pick up any ticks.  This is tick season and old roads are prime tick habitat.  Perhaps there are less ticks on the West side of the Olympics?

Snow condition were good.  Snow was deep but fairly firm.

Snowshoes were an absolute must for this hike.

Back  to Wynoochee.  I don’t know a lot of places to explore in the area, so I hiked to two waterfalls.  This was my second or third time going to Maiden hair falls and my second time going to Wynoochee falls.  I really need to get a high clearance vehicle, a truck I think, so I can haul stuff too.  I worry about the cost even though I can afford one.  I’ve just got to force myself to buy one.  I know I will love it as long as it is reliable.

I loved my Jeep, but it was always breaking down, so I got rid of it.  Every time I look at the price of used trucks I am shocked by how much people want for worn out high mileage vehicles.

I started my hike at about 9:30 and went to Maidenhair falls first.  I had hoped to fly my camera there but could not get a clear enough signal.  I got confused finding the trail near the bridge over the Wynoochee, there is a dearth of signs there.

Next I walked up the road to the old Wynoochee Falls campground.   It was pleasant for a road walk.  The air was clean and there was very little chance of vehicle traffic on the road and no chance of having chemicals dumped on my head.

The trail to the falls is unmarked but not hard to find.  I was able to fly my camera at Wynoochee falls and I hope to incorporate those shots into a video of the hike.  I had lunch at the base of the falls and then I went up an explored the area above the falls before brush crashing out to the road.  I enjoyed my forest brush crash but seeing all the old growth stumps made me sad.
