This was a fun hike on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. One of the neat things about this hike is that it can be done without a car since it parallels a passenger train track and begins and ends near train stations.
We opted to drive to the northern start of our route and then catch the train from Pekerua Bay back to our car. The path in on a hillside above the tracks, sometimes way above the tracks for the entire 5-6 miles (10K).
The path has stunning views, wooded sections and swing bridges. At the start of this hike I found my first ever stink horn. The one I found is endemic to New Zealand and Australia.
We had a cold lunch and hot instant coffee on a bench at the top of the trail.
