June 2026 Catching Western Flycatchers

**Capturing the Flycatchers** I’m using the Nikon Z9 as a camera trap to photograph the flycatchers feeding their nestlings. The best setup so far has been the Z9 with the 70–200mm f/2.8, zoomed back to around 100mm, with the camera trap sensitivity set to Size 1 and Speed 1. For better depth of field, I may also switch to the 105mm lens with two lights so I can stop down more and keep both the bird and the nest area sharper. Right now the challenge is balancing motion, depth of field, and enough light without disturbing the birds. Camera: Nikon Z9 Lens: Nikon 70–200mm f/2.8E Settings: 130mm, f/5.6, 1/500 sec.
