What a hike I had today. I had to back track half a mile because I left my satellite messenger on my car, then I immediately had to go back half a mile again, because I dropped my GPS by my car when I was backtracking to get the satellite messenger. Both items back in hand I went into the bushes for some much needed relief and I managed to poop on my dog! Then at lunch time I dropped my lens cap and it rolled five feet away on its edge like a tire into the river and then once it was in the river it rolled under a giant rock where I could reach it or see it. Also I forgot to pack my dog's lunch so had to share my meager lunch with her. A video will be uploaded overnight.
It feels
like I have been eating too much and gaining weight.I need to start putting in more miles.
With nothing going on at home during the
day, getting out is not a problem.I am
back to having the problem of the house being trashed when I return
though.
Flash back to the early days of
this blog and the disasters I used to return home to after leaving my kids at
home with my spouse for the day.
I dropped my kiddo off at school since he missed the bus and I got off to a slightly later start than planned, but the days are so long that it did not matter. This was my fifteenth wedding anniversary and I was not sure how bad my grief would be today.
The plan was a longish road hike on a road that sometimes bores me. I love the destination, but the road its self can be very boring. I brought my new Bluetooth speaker to help with the monotony of this road hike and it worked. I despise hearing other hikers speakers on the trail and I would never take one on a trail. This was a road hike where I would not be seeing anyone else.
I took a brush crashing route on the way in and I stumbled onto a poachers trail. Someone had gone off trail and poached a maple tree only taking a bit of wood from the base. Shame on them!
I had lunch undercover and managed to get a few pictures that I like.
On the hike out I saw two mason county sheriffs in their car. They asked me if I had seen or heard anyone out there. How strange? For the rest of my hike out I wondered what they were looking for.
After I got home I found out that a solder had gone missing. They decided that he probably fell down below the High Steel Bridge. This seems to happen about once a year. Very sad.
I think because he was a soldier they extended the search out a bit further than usual. I was quite a distance upstream from that bridge.
I had a nice hike of about 10 miles and it did not wear me out too much.
